Who We Are

SURGE Columbus is a collaborative of museums, libraries, and media organizations in Columbus, Ohio empowering teens to discover and pursue their learning interests outside of school by connecting them with mentors, digital and cultural resources, and each other.

  • We aim to create more welcoming, open, accessible, and connected learning opportunities for Columbus teens, to re-imagine learning and help them become creative citizens who can think on their feet in order to actively participate in civil discourse, compete in the global economy, and develop 21st-century learning skills.
  • We envision a “learning ecology” that significantly impacts and shapes the learning potential of Columbus-area teens.
  • We value skills in critical thinking, civic engagement, media literacy, media production, and creative expression.

Columbus Metropolitan Library’s purpose is to inspire reading, share resources and connect people in central Ohio and beyond, in our locations and on columbuslibrary.org.  Drop in to YouMedia Teens at Main Library to learn how to create music, videos, graphics and photography with iPads, iMacs and Mac laptops, with mentors ready to help.
